Our destination is the remote volcanic island of Psathoura with its beautiful white sand beach, stands of sea lilies, lighthouse and sunken city. We head along the coastline of Alonissos, past the Blue Cave and then on to the island of Kyra Panagia where we will make our first swim stop in the bay of Planitis.
We then carry on to Psathoura for the main stop of the day where you can swim, relax on the beach or explore the island before lunch is served onboard. We then carry on past the rugged coastline of Gioura with it’s close views to Piperi, the tiny island of Papou with it’s deserted church and past the monastery on Kyra Panagia before heading home.
Skantzoura Island and Monastery
The rarely visited island of Skantzoura and it’s shores of white marble, and the nearby island of Polemika, are an important habitat for the rare Audouin’s Gull and the Eleonora’s Falcon. We head for the coast of Alonissos and then between the islands of Dio Adelphia and on to Skantzoura. Here we anchor in a beautiful bay where both swimming and snorkeling are a sheer delight. Those who wish may walk over the marble shores and up to the old farmhouse and ruined monastery from where the panoramic view of the Marine Park is truly spectacular.
After a refreshing swim our lunch is served on board and there is then time to relax before we begin our journey back with a further swim stop at the islands of Dio Adelphia where the swimming and snorkeling is superb.
Walking distance: 2 kms to and from monastery.
Walking sandals and shorts ok, light trousers if you wish to explore.
